Not every squishy makes the cut. Squishopia started with a simple frustration: most squishies sold online are a gamble. They arrive smelling like a chemical factory, crack within days, and their product pages are long on adjectives — “super soft!”, “premium quality!” — and short on actual facts. We decided to do it the other way around: set the standard first, then only stock what passes it. Every squishy we list has to clear five gates.
1. Materials first
Material is the first gate, because it decides almost everything else. Our main line is built on food-grade silicone: it is odorless, non-porous, washable and tear-resistant, and it does not turn sticky or greasy over time. There is a reason we are strict about this. In a widely cited test by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, all 12 squishies tested released volatile chemicals such as DMF (dimethylformamide) as they off-gassed. Those chemicals come from cheap polyurethane foam and the solvents used to make it. We still accept PU squishies — but only high-density, genuinely slow-rising foam from makers who can document what goes into it. Materials of unknown origin are an automatic no.
2. Lab reports, or it doesn’t ship
Before any product is listed on Squishopia, its maker must provide a test report from an accredited laboratory — SGS, TÜV, Bureau Veritas or an equivalent — covering the standards that apply to toys sold in Canada and the US, including EN 71, ASTM F963, CPC and Canadian toy regulation requirements. The report has to match the exact model and production batch we are buying, not a similar product tested years ago. No report, no listing. A low price is never a reason to make an exception.
3. Hand-checked in Canada
Paperwork is not enough. When stock arrives in Canada, we open the boxes and check every unit by hand: a smell test, a timed rebound test, and a close look at seams, print and paint for cracks or peeling. Units that fail any check are pulled and never listed. We would rather reject part of a shipment than sell a squishy we would not squeeze ourselves.
4. Real specs, no fluff
Every product page on Squishopia lists measured facts, not adjectives: the exact material, the rebound time we timed in seconds, size, weight, the recommended age, and how to clean it. If we cannot measure it, we do not claim it. That way you can compare two squishies the way you would compare anything else — by the numbers.
5. Our 30-day durability promise
Cheap squishies are famous for splitting within a week. Ours are chosen to be squeezed daily, and we stand behind that: if a squishy cracks, peels or splits at a seam within 30 days of normal use, we replace it free. It is a simple promise, and it is only possible because of the four gates above it.
That is the standard every Squishopia product has to pass — and anything that can’t, never makes it here.
